Start with a state pay-stub guide
These guides explain the local issues to check, provide a worked earnings example and link to the underlying official guidance.
Does one pay-stub template satisfy every state?
No single layout establishes compliance everywhere. Required information and applicable deductions depend on the jurisdiction and employment arrangement. Use a template to present accurate records, and compare its fields with the relevant official requirements.
Does the generator automatically calculate state taxes?
The current PayStubExpress interface provides manual fields for state and local withholding. It offers 18 layouts, editable earnings and deduction details, and a sample preview. Enter checked payroll amounts; selecting a work state does not verify state or local tax calculations.
Official resources for the 48 contiguous states
Use this directory to find the agency listed by the U.S. Department of Labor for each state. Agency responsibilities vary; a labor office may direct tax questions to a revenue agency. These are government resources, not W2Paystub offices.

Puerto Rico payroll resources
Puerto Rico needs separate payroll and tax review. A periodic pay stub is different from Form 499R-2/W-2PR, the annual withholding statement. Check the Puerto Rico Department of Labor and Human Resources and the relevant tax agencies before preparing documentation. Puerto Rico-specific calculation support in the generator has not been verified.

A simple review sequence
1. Confirm the work location, residence details and the pay period. 2. Reconcile each earnings line with time and payroll records. 3. Verify deductions using the correct rules and actual payroll amounts. 4. Check net pay, dates and identifiers before sharing the statement.
