Texas Pay Stub Generator

A Texas pay stub explains the earnings, deductions and net pay for a pay period. Whether a written earnings statement is legally required depends on which law covers the employment. Use accurate payroll records and check the applicable rule before preparing a statement.

What to organize before you begin

Texas guidance emphasizes clear earnings records and careful documentation. Requirements can depend on whether state minimum-wage provisions or federal law apply, so the underlying payroll record remains essential.

  • Hours worked and rate of pay when applicable
  • Total pay for the period
  • Deductions and their purpose
  • Regularly scheduled paydays
  • Written authorization for certain deductions

Professional paystub template options

Choose a layout that presents payroll information clearly. A template is a formatting aid—not a substitute for accurate source records or state-specific legal review.

Texas pay stub questions, answered

Must every Texas employer provide a pay stub?

Not under the same rule. TWC explains that FLSA-covered employees are exempt from the Texas Minimum Wage Act earnings-statement provision. TWC still recommends clear pay receipts so workers can understand their wages.

What should a useful earnings statement explain?

Make the pay period, hours, pay rates, gross amount and deductions easy to follow. Use a descriptive label for each deduction so the employee can reconcile take-home pay with the payroll record.

Does a cash payment eliminate the need for records?

No. Keep a record of the amount, date and purpose of the payment. TWC recommends obtaining a signed receipt when wages are paid in cash; a generated document should not claim that a payment occurred without supporting records.

Texas pay stub example

Fictional regular-pay example: 38 hours at $24 equals $912 gross. If actual recorded deductions total $142, net pay is $770. Keep the $912 earnings total separate from the $142 deduction total. These assumed deductions illustrate arithmetic only; they are not a tax estimate.

What the generator handles

PayStubExpress offers 18 layouts and editable earnings and deduction fields. Its current interface labels state and local withholding as manual amounts. Enter amounts checked against your payroll records; do not assume selecting a state completes its tax calculations.
